Energy management system - Energy efficiency
ISO 50001
It was created in response to requirements for environmental protection, energy efficiency and sustainable development.
The ISO 50001 standard is compatible with all standards from the series of management systems published by the ISO organization and can be applied in all organizations regardless of size and activity.
An energy management system provides the basis for developing an energy management plan and addressing critical aspects of energy efficiency, including energy use, measurement, monitoring, reporting, development and procurement practices, and other variables that can be measured and monitored.
ISO 50001 specifically requires that the organization establish indicators through which it will monitor performance in the field of energy efficiency.
The ISO 50001 energy management system includes:
- Use and consumption of energy
- Measurement, monitoring and reporting of energy use and consumption
- Development and practice of public procurement for equipment, systems and processes that use energy
- Development of an energy management plan and other factors affecting energy efficiency that the organization can influence and monitor.
ISO 50001 does not include binding energy efficiency improvement targets, instead it provides a framework through which any organization can set and implement its energy efficiency improvement targets.
The standard is designed for widespread use in industrial plants, buildings and other organizations.
By adopting and applying the principles of ISO 50001, it could influence the reduction of energy consumption on a global level up to 60% in many economic sectors.
